It’s undeniable that the one thing you need to succeed in your online business is traffic. And free traffic beats everything else. Where does free traffic come from? Google and other search engines.
How does Google give out free traffic?
The process works in a way that you have experienced many many times. You visit your favorite search engine. Enter in a word or phrase you want to research. Then you click on one of the pages that in displayed. Well, the link you clicked on just send free traffic to that website owner. What need to figure out is how to get you free traffic.
You probably only visit a link or two from the first page of results. In fact, the first page of results receives almost all the free traffic. And what’s more, the first 3 get over 70% of the clicks.
So, obviously your site needs to be in the first page of results to get free traffic from Google. And that means you need to be “ranked” in the top 10 by Google. Which brings up..
What is search engine optimization?
Search Engine Optimization is a measure of how well Google and other search engines think your website matches the search terms people are typing into their search boxes. The intricate formula Google uses to figure this out is really only known by Google. However, we do know a few things that count.
Getting indexed
First, before you can get ranked highly, Google has to know you exist. This is known as being “indexed.” What this means is that Google visits your site and records information about it in their database.
Google needs to actually find your site in order to index it. Getting a link from another site will accomplish this easily. Since some of these site will already be indexed, Google will follow the links on their pages and find you.
A couple of great places to do this are in your Twitter or Facebook profiles. Because these sites are indexed multiple times every day. And follows new links it finds immediately.
Gaining ranking
After getting indexed, you need to work on your search engine ranking. Google has billions of pages indexed, so just getting into their database does not mean anyone will see you.
There are three components of gaining ranking:
- Content
- Links
- Activity
Content strategies
This is the SEO work you do on your page. And it means that the content on your page matches the keywords you’re targeting. Obviously, the article you’re reading now is about search engine optimization. Google knows that not just because the words search engine optimization show up. Another reason is because there are related words, like website traffic, too.
The title of the page, the domain name and other pages on your site are also important. Google uses all of this content to figure out what your site is really about.
Your links
The second factor is your linking. This includes both the inbound and outbound links. With inbound links, you want to have more coming in than going out. And the more inbound links the better.
Article spinning is a super easy way to get a bunch of inbound links. To use this technique you write articles related to the topic of your websites. You have to also write several different versions of your articles. Because you’re going to post a unique copy of it to lots of different websites. And quantity is the key here – so do lots and lots.
Make your site active
Finally, we know that Google gives you credit for the activity on your site. A page that was created 3 years ago and hasn’t been touched since won’t rank well. Google expects you to be updating your site regularly. You can do this with RSS feeds and news posts.
Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. This means you need to get real live people to your site, as well. One simple method for doing this is to use forums.
Set up forum profiles with the ones related to your website. And post their often. Always include a link back to your site. This generates even more links back to your site. And it also gets people to your web page.
Conclusion
All of the above is important. But let’s face it, writing multiple versions of the same article. And creating a bunch of forum profiles. And posting your content all over the web is time consuming. And the bad news is that you probably won’t do it.
Fortunately, you can get rank builder software to do all the grunt work for you. So the best thing you can do is to automate this process. And then you’re sure to get it done. And not doing it means you will never get free traffic from Google.
Traffic Generation Tips
July 26, 2010 by Team101
The most important thing in any web business is traffic – lots and lots of traffic. The other 1% is what you do with that traffic, but if you have to traffic – you can figure out the rest. Once the visitors arrive you can have them join your mailing list, purchase a product or subscribe to your RSS feed. The important thing is getting the traffic and sustaining it.
Let’s talk about how to generate traffic…
These are the best and fastest ways to get free visitors coming to your site:
- Web 2.0
- Articles Directories
- Video
And here’s how to use each method…
Web 2.0
By web 2.0 we mean any site where the users actually create the content. The exciting thing about Web 2.0 sites is that you get to add your own content and it becomes part of these sites. Because these sites get so much traffic, Google and the other search engines treat these sites with greater importance in their algorithms. The benefit of this to you is that your content is now considered as part of these sites. By placing links to your websites in this content you’ve created, you get traffic from the site and search engine ranking for the keywords you choose. This is the hidden benefit of using Web 2.0 sites. How to generate web 2.0 traffic is something we’ve only scratched the surface on. I don’t want to be exhaustive – I want to give you an overview of all the methods…
Articles Sites
The next thing we want to talk about is article marketing. This is because article websites are really web 2.0 site. Article directories are sites where users (including you) can upload articles they have written. And just like other web 2.0 sites, you get all the SEO benefits from having your content on them. But you also get the extra benefit of other users taking your article and putting it on their site. And because the terms of the directory say they have to include your “resource box” you get links back from all these other sites, too. In order to get the most free traffic make sure you:
- Do your keyword research
- Write specifically to target these keywords
- Hyperlink these keywords to your website – both in the content of the article and in your author’s info section.
Video Sites
And finally, we need to talk about getting traffic from videos. Once again, this is really a sub-set of web 2.0. And it carries all the same benefits of article marketing. And if all that wasn’t enough, you also stand a much stronger chance of getting a high search engine ranking for the keywords you want with video than you do with text-based content.
Here are just a few video marketing tips:
- Set up your YouTube account
- When people view your videos, you want them to visit your site, so turn all the other modules in your profile off
- Put relevant “tags” in your profile
- Include a link to your main site in your profile
- Upload at least 1 video
- Include your keywords in the title, description and tags
Summary:
This is a great overview to get your started generating massive traffic to your site.
